What is a Didjeridu?
The Didjeridu is an Australian Aboriginal wind instrument with deep, earthy, vibratory tones and vocal overtones. It is a versatile instrument, native to the Aboriginal people of the Australian Outback and has been around for at least 40,000 years. The Didjeridu is Australia's oldest wind instrument and likely the world's first wind instrument.
Traditionally made from young Eucalyptus trees hollowed out by termites, the Didjeridus of today can also be made from other materials, including various other trees, bamboo, and plastic pvc pipe. When learning to play this instrument, the key elements to keep in mind are to relax, be patient, stay playful, and keep an open mind. Remember that the body and mind are connected. A healthy body equals a healthy mind and a healthy mind equals a healthy body. It has been said that the Didjeridu chooses you and that, contrary to popular belief, you are not playing it: it is actually playing through you.
What is circular breathing?
Circular breathing is a form of breathing that allows you to keep the sound going without pausing, while taking in more air. Really, it just a matter of getting your mind to allow your body to do what it needs to do. Leah will show you exercises that can assist you in learning to circular breathe. For those health-conscious people out there, the Didjeridu is an excellent way to increase your lung capacity and cardio, reduce snoring, and define your abdominal muscles. Lessons with Leah are fun, interesting and meaningful.

Authentic Australian Outback Didjeridu ~ $500.00
This didjeridu was imported by Ganga Giri (www.gangagiri.com) when he was touring the Island in 2005. This didj was played by Ganga Giri and I was amazed at what it could do. When I purchased it he assured me it would teach me a lot and it has. This didjeridu was made in the Australian Outback by the tribal Aborigines. It's the beautiful didj in the photo above. It's in the "C note" range and is an absolute joy to play.
